There is not one song where Serj doesn't demonstrate his capabilities as a front man.
#System of a down album spiders full#
He is full of anger, and the inhale screams, the straightforward, throat-hindering yells, the highs and lows, and the melodic singing (I know I've said this a lot, haha) define this album for what it is. Definitely the best vocals in SOAD'S entire discography (in my opinion). But there are songs, like Sugar, DDevil, Soil, P.L.U.C.K, and Spiders, where, once you hear the bass, you know that you're in for a ride.Īnd finally, Serj's vocals. I don't know why but it brings a sound that brings the entire album together, and it separates from every other Warwick and Musicman sounds. Shavo's bass lines sort of lack, unfortunately, but if you have an ear, that clanky sound compliments this album. His parts are complex, but it's not overly fast he has a way that every drummer I've talked to recognize. John's drumming is nothing short of awesome, and one thing I love is that he brings a fast-aggressive pace with more than just double pedaling on every song. Know, Suggestions, and Soil demonstrate his versatility as well, demonstrating melody but keeping that heaviness - it's awesome. While Daron does not do as much vocals, he shines with the lyrics, song writing, and a unique guitar sound. And finally ending they end the album with P.L.U.C.K (my favorite track of the album), demonstrating complexity, rage, melody, and unity.Īll in all, each member did a fantastic job to demonstrate their experience with their respective instruments. And then it gets weird as fuck with Peephole, Darts, and CUBErt, but notice how they still retain the heavy, angry, guttural sound that they've brought to the table. It speaks of June, a girl going through a procedure to insert a v-chip in her brain, controlling her thoughts and dreams. With Soil (one of the best tracks in the album) and Mind, it's a trip of adrenaline and heaviness, but it's done in a different way from every other metal band at the time. Spiders is the second single for System of a Down’s debut album. But after that, they show you that they're a new band that's here to stay. Then, it takes a small break with Spiders, showing you the melody and slow rhythm that they're capable of. The album gets right to the point and gives you a slap in the face with Suite-Pee, and continues with this rush of energy (with Know, Sugar, and Suggestions). Not only that, but the heaviness of the album also introduced them as one of the best Drop-C bands I've ever heard.

I remember when first binging the album, one track after another, I was left utterly amazed by the amount of creativity that each song had. SOAD's self-titled is a unique and brilliant album. I am opened to discussions and I would definitely love to hear what you think and why you think that. I'm a little bored and I decided to talk about System's self-titled album.
